Latest News from Golog
Dear friends and supporters of the Tadra Project,
we hope you are all well and doing fine.
We want to let you know in advance. Youlha has already notified several foundations in advance.
Unfortunately, we are currently receiving very concerning news from Tibet, which is weighing heavily on our minds and making us very sad.
Just as happened in Dawu, our first children’s village, our children from Golok, our second children’s village, will now also be transferred to public schools in September. We are no longer permitted to operate our elementary and middle schools on the project grounds. At the moment, we are still in discussions with the authorities and trying to find a solution regarding whether—and in what form—our children’s village can continue to exist.
If—as was the case in Dawu—we are able to reach a compromise, we would like to continue offering our children a place they can return to: a home, a familiar environment, and a safe haven on weekends and during school breaks.
However, should our project in Golok indeed be completely shut down, we unanimously decided at our last members’ meeting to continue fulfilling our responsibility toward the children regardless. We would like to continue providing financial support to the children who once came into our care—even after a possible closure—until they complete their high school or university education.
Because for us, our mission does not end with the closure of a children’s village.
Even though much has changed, one thing remains the same for us: our responsibility toward the children and our promise not to leave them on their own.
When we welcomed these children into our Tadra children’s villages, we made them a promise: a home, a sense of security, and the chance for a good education—and thus a self-determined future.
We are particularly concerned about the period after 9th grade. Without our support, many of our children would be largely on their own during this crucial phase of their lives. After all these years of supporting them, we do not want to let any child suddenly find themselves without prospects.
We want to be able to continue telling them: You are not forgotten. We stand by our promise.
Of course, these changes will also significantly reduce our financial needs.
We are deeply grateful to you for everything you have done for our children so far. Without people like you, much of what we have been able to achieve together would not have been possible.
We therefore very much hope that you will continue to accompany us on this new and difficult path.
If the children are no longer allowed to live permanently in the children’s village, we will in the future cover only the costs of their secondary school, vocational school, or university education.
According to our projections, it will take about 10 to 15 years until the last children have graduated. Naturally, our costs will decrease accordingly from year to year as this process unfolds.
We will also address the troubling news from Tibet in our annual report.
We’re sorry that we cannot provide more specific details at this time. There is currently a great deal of turmoil both at the office in Golok and at the children’s village. It will take some time for everything to be sorted out. I hope to have more specific information by the end of the year.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for walking this path with us so far—and we very much hope that you will continue to stand by our side.
Warmest regards,
Tadra Team
